Scandal shuts down News of the World after 168 yrs

For all you Fox News fans, Rupert Murdoch and company are at it again. This time his British “News of the World” publication is under fire for hacking the cell phones of celebrities, murder victims and other crime victims to gather voice mail, text and e-mail messages all to gain a leg up on the competition.
When Murdoch and his son, James Murdoch, first became aware of the situation, they ignored it. Only after the British government threatened to become involved did the publication admit fault and close down. The “news” paper is Britain’s most widely read tabloid and it is believed to have hacked over four thousand (that’s right) victims. Apparently, this seems to be standard operating procedure in England.
Who would have guessed that our uptight ancestors and allies are so tasteless. So far no American news publication has stooped so low. But who knows if we aren’t already leaning in that direction. Watch Fox News and within ten seconds you know they are a right winged reactionary service. Watch MSNBC and you find out how far to the left they lean.
What happened to neutral based journalism? Is it about form over substance these days? How, as consumers, are we to be kept informed about the important things in our country and around the world? It seems that no matter what we read, we have to doubt the veracity of the item.
The “Fourth Estate”, as the press is sometimes called, needs to return to its dignified past. A place where the everyman can obtain an unvarnished accurate account of the goings on of the day. Slanted journalism has always existed but those types of publications were widely known as such.
Now the disingenuousness has crept into what were once reputable publications and broadcasts. All this does is breed distrust and Mr. Murdoch and company have gone to great lengths to perpetuate that notion.
